Sunrise Hospital Partners with Walgreens to Offer Bedside Delivery for Discharge Medications
Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center is pleased to announce that it is the first hospital in the nation to successfully integrate its electronic medical record software, Meditech, with Walgreens Pharmacy to offer bedside delivery of discharge medications to adult patients.
“By delivering medications to the bedside, we are proactively educating our patients about how to best care for themselves when they leave the hospital,” said Todd Sklamberg, Chief Executive Hospital of Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. “The care that takes place after a patient leaves the hospital is essential to the healing process.”
Typically, a patient or loved one would have to stop at their neighborhood pharmacy on the way home from the hospital to pick up their discharge medications. Bedside delivery promotes medication compliance and aides in decreasing the number of patients readmitted to the hospital.
This new program allows Sunrise Hospital and Walgreens Pharmacy the opportunity to improve medication awareness and patient outcomes. Bedside delivery enhances the patient’s overall hospital experience and can ease the transition to home. A Walgreens Pharmacist reviews all medications and a Pharmacy Staff Member delivers the medication to the bedside.
The following are just some of the benefits of the new bedside delivery program:
- Delivery within one hour of receiving discharge scripts
- Security sealed bags with the patient’s specific information
- Follow-up calls on all patients who utilize the service within 48 hours
- Professional and fast service
