Las Vegas is one of the most iconic American cities, thanks in large part to the Las Vegas Strip, which is home to many of the most notable casinos, restaurants, and convention centers in the city. The city of Las Vegas was established in 1905 and incorporated in 1911, experiencing rapid growth through the mid-20 th century with the development of the hotel and casino scene. While Las Vegas is now widely known as “Sin City”, it was once the site of a fort for the LDS Church, the remainder of which can still be seen at the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Washington Ave.

With the presence of legalized gambling and a wealth of entertainment offered in the city, Las Vegas has an economy primarily driven by tourism. In recent years, there have been significant revitalization efforts in downtown Las Vegas to bring tourism back to the heart of the city, rather than in the surrounding suburbs of Paradise and Enterprise, where many of the most famous casinos and hotels are actually located.
